Osmania College, Jaffna
A historic pillar of education, community assembly, and cultural resilience for the Jaffna Muslim community.
Founded in the early decades of the 20th century, Osmania College served as the premier educational institution for Jaffna Muslims and surrounding communities for generations.
Historical Significance
Before the forced displacement of 1990, Osmania was a vibrant center of academic excellence, sporting achievement, and Tamil-Arabic cultural synthesis. Teachers and alumni went on to become national leaders, educators, doctors, and public servants.
Rebuilding & Present Status
Following the self-resettlement process that began in 2002 and accelerated after 2009, community elders and returning teachers worked tirelessly to clear the campus, restore damaged classrooms, and re-enroll students.
- Current Enrollment: Over 400 students across primary and secondary grades.
- Facilities: Modern science lab, computer center, and restored assembly hall.
- Community Need: Scholarship support for students and equipment for advanced IT labs.
